We crossed the channel and here we are in the old good England. Country sides, pubs, amazing views and lots of rain! Although we have been in England and Wales before many times, there is always something new to discover. And this is also where our Classic Cars journey starts – see our blog on Classic Cars: https://teamblue.online/category/classic-cars/

Healey
We abandoned ‘Hatti’ the jeep (‘elephant’ in Hindi) and moved to a car we got from a friend – a vehicle over 60 (almost our age). We set out to explore the green roads of rainy England. When we say that the objects have a soul, we mean this vehicle. Austin Healy 3000 1960, beautiful racing car, kept in its original condition. When they built this car, they only thought of an engine, in the trunk you can comfortably store a box of matches and there will be no room for anything else, the passenger compartment is sewn to the size of a horse racer, and of course there are no redundant accessories in the car such as power steering, electric windows, heating, air conditioner or a place for a cup of coffee. But when you release the clutch and press all the way on the gas you feel like you are riding a combination of a wild animal and a plane. Do not try at home :).
Wales, UK
For all the lovers and addicts of the United Kingdom (like me!), Wales is the answer! I could not imagine how beautiful the area is, except for…. the weather! In an hour you pass sun, sun with rain, rain without sun, wind, partly cloudy and fog… and thanks to all this, lots of rainbows 😊.
Guildford road, Runfold, Farnham, UK
The English Country Side… We do not like highways and therefore ask Google Maps to avoid them, then our loyal guide takes us to a narrow country road, then to a narrower country road, then to a really-really narrow road… such that it is not clear how two cars can pass, and it should be noted that the English do not hesitate much on those narrow roads and fly at quite a high speed. Some of the roads look like tunnels dug in the vegetation and you have no idea of what is hiding around the corner.
We sleep mostly in pubs… so no, not on the bar 😊, but above it, in the rooms of a rustic English house with a creaking floor and crooked corners, but full of great ambience. And of course, the main advantage is that the beer and wine are only a few steps away.
Cornwall, England
Roundabouts… Someone in England decided that roundabouts are the ultimate answer to all the problems and challenges of the rural road system, and indeed there is a huge variety: regular with no traffic in the middle, large with a road passing through, very small that are too hard to circle, and painted, i.e. not really a roundabout, just a circle drawn in the middle of the junction… And then, they saw that this wasn’t enough, something was still missing, so they added traffic lights at the entrance to the roundabout… and were still not satisfied, so they added another roundabout next to it… In short, some cities in Israel have more to learn 😊.
Today we were in the South West of England (Devon and Cornwall) and visited the village of Doc Martin (for those who are interested and love the British series!). We also saw people swimming in the Atlantic Ocean even though the water temperature is probably close to 0!
Norton Saint Philip, Somerset, UK
They say you must drive the Highway 1 in California because of its special beauty… so they say… (I personally think Highway 1 is much nicer in Washington and Oregon)… Today we drove the unknown and unpaved road, a country road along the north coast of South West England (Somerset) and this is an amazing road in its beauty and variety – hills, vegetation that looks really tropical (if not the temperature gauge that insists on 10 degrees maximum, you would think we are in a beautiful tropical country), medieval villages with castles and monasteries… in short, the famous California road loses in comparison 😊.
By the way, guess what is the most common and necessary traffic related sign while driving on rural roads in England…? This is a palm lift and / or a slight wave of gratitude for granting the right of way on the narrow road 😊.
Wales... again 😀
April - May, 2023
There may be some people who will accuse me of Anglophilia … and they are right. I love almost everything about the United Kingdom – architecture, history, culture, people, amazing landscapes, except… the weather and the food!
We returned to Wales (which we discovered about a year and a half ago) and it is indeed amazing – its special landscapes, ancient castles and medieval villages that have kept their special soul. And if you are lucky to get some sun then this is a perfect place .
There are places in the world that are overrated like Times Square or New Zealand, on the other hand places like Wales in the UK are underrated. Small villages stuck in the Middle Ages with stone houses and narrow alleys, fortresses and palaces scattered among green hills with narrow and winding roads. And most importantly nice people with a British sense of humor. Almost no tourists and everything is calm and quiet. If only they had controlled the weather, it would have been possible to send Adam and Eve here.
